Question

Why do beneficiary percentages matter?

The situation is that I am reviewing beneficiary forms across retirement accounts, investment accounts, and other financial assets. The situation is that some forms were completed years ago and do not necessarily match my current family situation or trust. What would a planner need to review to make the recommendation specific to me?

Incorrect totals or unclear shares can delay processing and produce results that differ from the intended division. Within the broader financial plan, the designations should match the estate plan and include current names, percentages, and contingent choices. Put the decision into a written plan that shows how cash flow, time horizon, taxes, liquidity, and downside risk fit together before money is committed.
