What questions should I ask a financial advisor before hiring them?

Right now, I am interviewing financial advisors and want to make sure the person and firm are legitimate before I move money or sign an advisory agreement. Right now, the candidates work for different types of firms and use different titles. The part I am trying to resolve is registration, disciplinary history, Form CRS, firm type, and comparing advisors.

Ask about services, credentials, fees, investment approach, conflicts, account custody, and how often you will communicate. Ask for written disclosures and understand whether the person provides ongoing planning, investment management, or product sales. Before moving assets to a professional, review Form CRS or other required disclosures, verify registration, and compare the relationship's total dollar cost and conflicts.
