Question

What is a life insurance replacement notice?

At the moment, an agent has recommended replacing an older life insurance policy with a new contract. At the moment, the old policy may have cash value, guarantees, and favorable terms that are not obvious from the new premium quote. Right now, the coverage could affect roughly $185,000 or more for my family, so I am paying close attention to exclusions, beneficiary rules, and what could cause the benefit to be reduced.

It is a disclosure used in many states to explain that a new policy will replace existing coverage and may create disadvantages. When evaluating the policy, replacing a life insurance policy can restart contestability and suicide periods, create new charges, require new medical approval, and cause loss of favorable guarantees. Evaluate the coverage from the written policy and current values, not on a sales summary by itself. For this insurance planning decision, do not cancel existing coverage until the replacement is fully issued and accepted, and compare guarantees, surrender values, new contestability periods, and total cost.
