Question

What does diversification mean in investing?

For context, my portfolio has grown one investment at a time and now holds several stocks and funds. For context, it looks diversified because there are many line items, but I am not sure whether the holdings actually represent different companies, industries, and asset classes. I have tried to research this through general online guidance, but they seem to assume facts that are different from mine.

It means holding a mix of assets, sectors, companies, and sometimes regions rather than relying on one result. For the household plan, diversification spreads money across different investments so one holding or market segment does not determine the entire outcome. The household impact matters more than evaluating this account or product by itself, rather than focusing on the account or product in isolation.
