What does a financial planner actually do?

I have never hired a financial planner and am trying to understand what the relationship is supposed to include. I need help across retirement, investments, taxes, and estate decisions, but the professionals I see use different titles and business models. What does a planner actually do beyond managing investments?

A planner can organize goals, model future needs, identify risks, and coordinate decisions across several areas of your finances. For the household plan, a financial plan connects cash flow, savings, investments, insurance, taxes, retirement, and estate goals. Before hiring anyone, review Form CRS or other required disclosures, verify registration, and compare the relationship's total dollar cost and conflicts.
