Question

Should I name more than one trusted contact?

The situation is that my brokerage firm is asking me to name a trusted contact. The situation is that I understand this person is not supposed to control my account, but I want to know when the firm might contact them and what information could be shared. What information should a planner gather before recommending a decision?

Some firms allow alternatives, which can be useful if the first person is unavailable or involved in the concern. As part of the financial analysis, a trusted contact is someone a financial firm may contact if it cannot reach the account owner or suspects exploitation or incapacity. For this planning decision, the person does not automatically receive authority to trade, withdraw money, or make decisions.
