Question

How often should I review account beneficiaries?

For context, I am reviewing beneficiary forms across retirement accounts, investment accounts, and other financial assets. For context, some forms were completed years ago and do not necessarily match my current family situation or trust. I have reviewed several general explanations, but the examples do not line up with my situation.

Review them periodically and after marriage, divorce, births, deaths, estrangement, or major plan changes. For the household plan, beneficiary reviews should cover retirement accounts, insurance, annuities, transfer on death accounts, and any plan benefits. A sound decision considers how this choice interacts with the household's other goals and resources, not by looking at the product or account on its own.
