Does my home state will control land in another state?

My will was signed in my home state, but I also own a small parcel of land in another state. Someone told me the other state's court may still have authority over the land even if my will is valid. Does my home state will determine who inherits the property while the other state controls the probate procedure, or can the laws actually produce a different result?
