An advisor can be useful, but fees, conflicts, and registration should be checked. For the household plan, before hiring a professional, verify registration, review Form CRS when applicable, and compare services, conflicts, and the total dollar cost. When the options are compared, a written plan can then allocate the inheritance across cash needs, debt, retirement accounts, taxable investing, and personal goals.
