Can my executor also inherit from my will?

My father wants to name me as executor and also leave me one third of his estate along with my two siblings. One sibling thinks an executor should be someone who does not inherit because otherwise there is a conflict of interest. I understand the executor has to follow the will and treat beneficiaries fairly, but is it generally allowed for the same person to be both executor and beneficiary?
