What is a revocable trust?

A revocable trust is a trust you can change, update, or cancel at any time while you're alive and mentally competent. You stay in full control of the assets, and most people use it to avoid probate and manage their property if they become incapacitated. Because you keep control, the assets are still counted as yours for tax purposes. It's the most common type of living trust.
